The Arena concrete chess set by Material Immaterial Studio is a modern interpretation of the age-old game of chess. The board's design is inspired by the architecture of Roman amphitheaters, where spectators would gather to watch the clash between the gladiators. The chess pieces wear architectural armor, each representing their position in the army.

While two powerful armies battle, a horde of spectators gather on the concrete stands of the Arena. The game begins at dawn with the first ray of light hitting the marked floor where the chess pieces on both sides hold ground and take positions for the action to start. 

It is fascinating how light and shadow accentuate the chess set's features and unveil the chess pieces' details with changing daylight. Place the Arena near a window to experience the dramatic play of light and shadow throughout the day.
